Every year, it seems NFL teams reveal new throwback jerseys. Some people like them, some hate them. I am a fan of them. They show the younger generation of fans what the players looked like when they played “back in the day.”
The upcoming game for the Steelers is against the Washington Redskins. The Steelers will be wearing their 80-year anniversary jerseys. In 1933, the Pittsburgh Pirates (Steelers) joined the league after Pennsylvania relaxed its blue laws, allowing sports to be played on Sundays amongst other things. They ended that season at a 3-6-2 record, and at the bottom of the NFL Eastern division. Boy, the league and this team have come a long way since then.
Lets be honest though, they are hideous jerseys. I have heard from all around friends, family, and the social media sites only negatives about this uniform.
“They look like prison uniforms”.
“They look like something the Hamburglar would wear”.
I agree that the uniforms are far from appealing. Black and Gold striped shirts, with giant numbers that look like they should be on a digital clock. Paired with ugly tan pants, and socks to match the top.
Even with all the negativity over these jerseys, I still like them and the concept of them. I personally will never buy one of them, but just think of all the extra revenue the NFL as a whole makes off of these jerseys. The more money the NFL makes, the better the product will be on the field, well at least it should be. My only hope is that every five years a new jersey doesn’t come out for every team. The way it is going, every team will have to wear a new jersey every game.
Thoughts on this jersey? Are you willing to buy one?
