Pittsburgh-The Pittsburgh Riverhounds finish the 2012 USL PRO season against their long-time regional rival, the Rochester Rhinos. The Riverhounds will travel to Rochester to square off with the Rhinos Saturday night at Sahlen’s Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM.
The Riverhounds have been eliminated from postseason competition while the Rhinos are focused on building momentum heading into the playoffs. Currently the Rhinos sit in second place within the league standings and with a win tomorrow night they would reach a total of 41 points. Only the Richmond Kickers could tie the Rhinos in total points on the season to create a challenging tie breaker, as the two Clubs split decisions in the regular season. The Kickers sit six points behind the Rhinos with two games remaining against Antigua Barracudas FC in the Caribbean. The battle for second place is crucial as the top two teams in the USL PRO receive a first round bye and host the semi-final match.
With the Rhinos fighting to earn a bye and host the semi-final match at Sahlen’s Stadium, tomorrow night’s matchup between the two Clubs will be filled with a playoff-like atmosphere. The Rhinos want to win to apply pressure on the Kickers, while the Riverhounds could spoil their efforts and deny the Rhinos a much needed week off.
