Last year, the Steelers got by with a makeshift offensive line, but missing was All-Pro center Maurkice Pouncey, due to an injury suffered in the team’s opener. The Steelers expect Pouncey to return to form, and they showed their faith, as they came to an agreement with Pouncey, extending the University of Florida product to a five-year, $44 million deal. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Overall, Pouncey has six years left on his contract after the extension, and is set to make $48 million. The contract makes Pouncey the highest paid center in football.
Despite missing all of last season due to a freak accident, Pouncey only missed three combined games in his previous three years.
