Pittsburgh Steeler running back Le”Veon Bell picked a great time to make history, as the Steelers leaned heavily on the franchise back in a hard fought 27-24 win on Monday night against the Tennessee Titans.
Bell finished with 204 yards and a touchdown on 33 carries, and his yardage total was not only the highest in the NFL in 2014, it was the fourth best in franchise history. Bell saved his best moments for the Steelers final possession, where he carried the ball seven consecutive times for 43 yards, enabling his team to effectively run out the clock at the end of the game.
With 951 rushing yards, Bell is the leading rusher in the AFC and trails only DeMarco Murray for the league lead. The second year product out of Michigan State is becoming one of the best running backs in the game, and it is clear that the Steelers will lean on him to carry the rushing attack as they push towards an AFC North title.
After today’s news of LeGarrette Blount being released by the organization after leaving the field prior to the end of Monday’s win, even more will be expected of Bell in the final weeks of the season.
The bye week could not have come at a better time for Bell and the Steelers, as they will have an extra week to rest and prepare for a November 30th match up with the New Orleans Saints at Heinz Field.
