After the Pat Narduzzi hiring, there has been a lot of positive energy surrounding the Pitt Panthers football program the past couple of weeks.
However the Panthers got a bit of negative news on Friday when they found out that wide receiver Adonis Jennings is leaving the program.
Jennings, a four-star recruit, and a guy who likely could have played a big role in the Panthers offense net season, announced on his Instagram account Friday night his intentions to transfer from Pitt.
“I’d like to thank the University of Pittsburgh for giving me an opportunity that many people wish they had,” Jennings wrote on Instagram. “I’d also like to [thank] the fans, coaches, and players. But I don’t feel like Pitt is the best fit for me. Great school but I just know I need to be somewhere else. Thank you Pittsburgh!”
Jennings was recruited to Pitt by former wide receivers coach Bobby Engram, who left to take a job with the Baltimore Ravens shortly after Signing Day.
There were whispers that Jennings would possibly transfer even before former Panthers head coach Paul Chryst left to take the Wisconsin job.
“You are going to lose some guys that have relationships in other directions,” said Narduzzi.
Jennings didn’t get on the field much early on and ended up starting one of the six games in which he played. He ended up with six receptions for 55 yards in the limited action.
One possible destination for Jennings is Rutgers as he had originally committed to the Scarlet Knights before switching to Pitt.
