The Pitt Panthers softball team made quite the run in the ACC Tournament, advancing all the way to the championship game where they eventually fell victim to Florida State.
As a result Pitt (35-20) made history and has earned a berth to its first ever NCAA Tournament.
The Panthers will face the Cal Bears (38-16) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
Pitt defeated both No. 2 seed North Carolina and No. 3 seed Notre Dame to reach the ACC finals.
Head coach Holly Aprile’s Pitt team is part of a four-team field playing in a double-elimination format in Ann Arbor. The field also includes No. 3 overall seed Michigan (51-6), Oakland (27-22).
The winner advances to the Super Regional on May 21-24.
Despite finishing the regular season at only 11-13 in the ACC, Pitt became the seventh ACC team in the field, an NCAA record.
After beating the Irish to reach the conference semis, Savannah King tossed a four-hit shutout to propel the No. 6 seeded Panthers over the Tar Heels.
Shelby Pickett homered in that win, which also likely clinched Pitt their first tournament berth in program history.
