The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced their schedule for the 2015-16 season. The Penguins will drop the puck for the first time on the new season on Thursday, October 8 in Dallas, Texas for an inter-conference showdown with the Dallas Stars.
The Pens will then continue their early-season western swing when they visit the Arizona Coyotes on October 10. They will then return home for a season-long five-game home stand, headlined by the home opener at Consol Energy Center against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, October 13.
The Pens will play 82 games, with 30 coming against Metropolitan Division opponents, 24 against the Atlantic Division and 28 against the Western Conference.
In the Metropolitan Division, the Penguins will play the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals five times and each of their five other divisional foes four times.
The Penguins divisional games have been pushed back in the schedule, with only seven of the 30 being played before Christmas. The Penguins will make their first appearance at the New York Islanders’ new home – the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn – until March 8.
The Philadelphia Flyers won’t visit the Penguins for the first time until January 21. The Flyers will then close the regular season at Consol Energy Center for the Penguins final home game on Sunday, April 3.
The Pens will then take to the road for a season-ending three-game road trip that will see them visit the Ottawa Senators along with division rivals Washington and Philadelphia.
Presumed number-one draft pick Conor McDavid will make his first visit to Pittsburgh with the Edmonton Oilers on November 28. The defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks will visit on January 5.
