With Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey now on the shelf, the Pittsburgh Steelers had to address their lack of depth at center.
They did that on Tuesday by bringing back a familiar face.
The team announced that they have signed free agent offensive lineman Doug Legursky.
Legursky previously spent time with the Steelers from 2009-12. He is most known for being thrown into the fire, having to start for an injured Pouncey in Super Bowl XLV when the Steelers lost to the Green Bay Packers.
Out of Marshall. Legursky signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He spent some time on the practice squad before making the 53-man roster as a backup offensive lineman, where he stuck around for a few years.
Legursky signed with the Buffalo Bills in 2013 before spending the 2014 season with the San Diego Chargers.
He has played in a total of 64 NFL games, making 30 starts where he played both guard and center. He will likely serve as a depth piece for the Steelers and could compete with Cody Wallace for the starting center position.
To make room for Legursky on the active roster, the team placed wide receiver David Nelson on the team’s Reserve/Injured List.
