For the second time this season, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain, Sidney Crosby, has been named the NHL’s first star of the week. Crosby has dominated lately and is currently third in the league in scoring behind Chicago’s Patrick Kane and Dallas’ Jamie Benn.
Crosby also has a 12-game point streak, the longest of the season for him. He finished this past week with seven points, give of which being assists. This was something that was missing from Crosby’s game at the beginning of the season. He was unable to feed players the puck and the offense suffered because of it.
His point streak is currently tied with the third longest point streak in the NHL this season. While coach Mike Sullivan cannot take all the credit, since his arrival on December 12, Crosby leads the NHL with 57 points — 25 goals and 32 assists — in only 43 games.
So far this month the captain has scored 17 points in the month of March which is five points more than the next closest player. It is very evident that the offense plays well when Crosby is able to create separation. His two assist night yesterday against the Washington Capitals is further proof of this.
The Penguins will have few days to rest up after facing two tough back-to-back games against Philadelphia and Washington. Pittsburgh will next play at home against the New Jersey Devils this Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
