Josh Portis, a former quarterback for California University of Pittsburgh, has once again made a trek to the NFL.
After two seasons in division I football, Portis transferred to Cal U in 2009. During that season he set school records in passing yards and touchdowns, throwing for 3,421 yards and 36 touchdowns. He accounted for 3,870 total yards of offense that season. His 2010 season wasn’t quite as good as his 2009 season but he still managed to throw for 2,651 yards and 31 touchdowns on the season.
Following the season, though, he was the first ever player from Cal U to be invited to the NFL Combine.
He was later signed as an undrafted free agent to the Seattle Seahawks after the 2011 NFL Draft. He made the roster and appeared in one preseason game, completing five of six passes for 69 yards and a touchdown against the San Diego Chargers. After the preseason, he was cut and signed to the practice squad.
This past off-season, he was signed by the Toronto Argonauts but has since been re-signed by the Seahawks.
The deal is for two years and the numbers haven’t been released yet.
Portis is set to back up Russell Wilson and is currently the number two quarterback on the roster. The Seahawks are ultimately looking to add depth at the position but Portis is expected to make the roster once again.
