** The following is an official recap from the Washington Wild Things **
Washington, PA-The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, scored six runs in three consecutive innings to defeat the Joliet Slammers 6-1 at CONSOL Energy Park on Thursday.
As a squad, the Washington offense combined for 11 hits and scored two runs in the sixth inning, three in the seventh and one in the eighth in their 34rd victory of the year.
Aside from the power of the bat, right handed starter Shawn Sanford pitched an outstanding game for Washington. Through eight innings, he allowed only five hits and struck out three batters on route to securing his team-leading eighth victory.
With one out in the bottom of the sixth, consecutive singles by second baseman CJ Beatty and outfielder Quincy Latimore put two runners on for outfielder Stewart Ijames. Following a Mark Samuelson strikeout, Ijames hit a clutch RBI single, scoring Beatty to put the Things in front 1-0. Designated hitter Matt Mirabal jumped on the Washington hit parade and followed his teammates lead with an RBI double that drove in Latimore for Washington’s second run of the night.
In the bottom of the next inning, Washington continued to swing the hot bat as Latimore unleashed a three-run bomb to left scoring Shain Stoner, who singled and Scott Kalamar, who was hit by a Slammers pitch.
Up 5-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth, Washington tallied another score, via a wild pitch by Joliet righty Ryan Hartman giving Washington a 6-0 advantage.
Down by six in the top of the ninth, Joliet mustered a little rally of their own but scored their only run of the contest when Michael Wing shot an RBI double that plated Nick Akins.
