Pirates relief pitcher Bryan Morris isn’t the only person in his family that’s busy this time of year.
Hours before Morris secured his third victory of the season in the Pirates 8-6 comeback win over the Blue Jays on Saturday, his wife Chelsey was running the streets of Pittsburgh.
Chelsey is an avid runner and participated in the Pittsburgh Half Marathon on Saturday where she finished 16th in her division, 52nd in the women’s division and 297th overall.
“She did pretty good,” said Morris. “She finished in an hour and thirty-four minutes. That’s pretty good.”
That pace is good enough for a seven minute and twelve second per-mile pace over the 26.2 mile course that takes runners on a course that covers Downtown, the Strip District, North Shore, West End and Station Square.
It’s a hobby that Chelsey and Bryan don’t share, but the pitcher does support her 100% and goes out with her on his bicycle while she trains.
“No, that’s her thing, running is her thing,” said Morris. “In the offseason, when she does her long runs, I’ll ride the bike with her, but you get more than 2-3 miles and she’s on her own.”
Another member of the Morris family was busy this week as Bryan’s older brother Josh was running in the Tennessee democratic primary elections on Tuesday.
“My older brother is running today for the county trustee back home, so we’ll see. We will find out later on.”
Josh ran for Coffee County (TN) Trustee. Which handles the state, federal and local funds used to help maintain the county. It also handles the collection of taxes in the county.
It’s the first campaign for Morris, but it hasn’t harmed him from gaining popularity in the county as his election page is flooded by supporters from in and around the county. Bryan has also aided in the campaigning by going to twitter to help is brother get a couple extra votes.

“It’s his first office term,” said Morris. “He’s been working, I don’t know exactly what it is, but he works at the courthouse and he’s been doing it for a few years. A lot of people have told him to give it a shot, so we’ll see what happens.”
It’s hasn’t rubbed off on Bryan though, as you won’t be seeing the two brothers team up in the election ring once Bryan is finished with baseball.
“No (laughs), I have no interest in any of that stuff.”
Update: Morris was not victorious in his primary as Josh finished third. Coffee County (TN) Trustee election results: Rodney Banks 1,521 (34%) – Roxanne Patton 1,195 (27%) – Josh Morris 951 (21%) – Donna Willis 805 (18%).
Congratulations to both Chelsey and Josh Morris on their accomplishments.
