Another week of ACC Football is in the books and we saw a lot happen.
North Carolina took the lead in the ACC Coastal Division with a big primetime road win at Pitt. Duke saw its season take a hit with a travesty of a few blown calls against Miami. And all of that sets up this week’s huge ACC showdown between Clemson and Florida State.
Where does your team stand?
Let’s take a look.
1. Clemson (8-0, 4-0 ACC, defeated NC State 56-41, Last Week-1)
The Tigers scored 50-plus points for the second consecutive game as Deshaun Watson finished with 437 yards and six touchdowns as the Tigers racked up 623 yards of total offense. Up next is the big one and Clemson gets the Seminoles at home. Up Next: Saturday vs. Florida State
2. Florida State (7-1, 5-1, defeated Syracuse 45-21, LW-2)
Jimbo Fisher has a decision to make as to whether Everett Golson or Sean Maguire starts at quarterback this week after Macguire threw for 348 yards and three touchdowns last week. Up Next: Saturday at Clemson
3. North Carolina (7-1, 4-0, defeated Pitt 26-19, LW-4)
After their win against Pitt, UNC jumped into the rankings for the first time this season at No. 21 in the AP poll. The Tar Heels can take another step toward Charlotte with a victory over Duke on Saturday, which would really put them in a great position to win the Coastal Division. Up Next: Saturday vs. Duke
4. Pitt (6-2, 4-1, lost to North Carolina 26-19, LW-5)
A tough loss for Pitt, which showed that they may not be ready to contend for the Coastal Division title just yet in Pat Narduzzi’s first season. But if I would have told any Pitt fan before the season that the Panthers could win at least nine games this season I bet everyone would have gladly taken that. Keep this in mind. Pitt’s losses have come against opponents who are a combined 15-1. Up Next: Saturday vs. No. 8 Notre Dame
5. Duke (6-2, 3-1, lost to Miami 30-27, LW-3)
Did the Blue Devils get screwed? Yes. But keep this in mind. They never should have been in that position anyways. The Blue Devils a double-digit favorite facing a backup quarterback and interim head coach, and Miami had 23 penalties. Had they taken care of business then things wouldn’t have come down to a bad call or four. Up Next: Saturday at North Carolina
6. Miami (5-3, 2-2, defeated Duke 30-27, LW-11)
Give the Canes credit for bouncing back in a big way. The play shouldn’t have counted, but it is a big win for Miami nonetheless. Up Next: Saturday vs. Virginia
7. Louisville (4-4, 3-2, defeated Wake Forest 20-19, LW-6)
It wasn’t the prettiest of wins, but the Cardinals defense played well again, forcing five WF turnovers. Aside from a loss to Florida State, Louisville has allowed only 16.5 points per game in their other four ACC contests. Up Next: Saturday vs. Syracuse
8. North Carolina State (5-3, 1-3, lost to Clemson 56-41, LW-8)
The Wolfpack still don’t have a good win on the season, but they hung with Clemson for a while. They get a gift with BC on the schedule next. Up Next: Saturday at Boston College
9. Virginia Tech (4-5, 2-3, defeated Boston College 26-10, LW-9)
Frank Beamer made it official that he is retiring at the end of the season. Now the Hokies need to win three more games to preserves Beamer’s consecutive winning season streak, which stands at 22. Up Next: Idle
10. Virginia (3-5, 2-2, defeated Georgia Tech 27-21, LW-14)
Virginia for a season-high 233 yards in a win over Georgia Tech and have now won two of their past three. That still won’t likely be enough to save Mike London’s job. Up Next: Saturday at Miami
11. Georgia Tech (3-6, 1-5, lost to Virginia 27-21, LW-7)
Wow. A win vs. FSU followed by a loss to Virginia? That says it all for this underachieving group. Up Next: Idle
12. Syracuse (3-5, 1-3, lost to Florida State 45-21, LW-10)
Syracuse has lost five straight games and gets to travel to Louisville this week. Orange head coach Scott Shafer may be the next one on the hot seat. Up Next: Saturday at Louisville
13. Wake Forest (3-6, 1-5, lost to Louisville 20-19, LW-12)
The Deamon Deacons have come close on a couple occasions to beating good teams, but mistakes have killed them. They still have Notre Dame, Clemson and Duke left. Up Next: Idle
14. Boston College (3-6, 0-6, lost to Virginia Tech 26-10, LW-13)
There’s no light at the end of the tunnel for BC. They still have conference games against NC State and Syracuse left to try and not go winless in the conference. Up Next: Saturday vs. North Carolina State
