Another week of ACC football is in the books and the conference still has two unbeaten teams in Clemson and Florida State.
After that there’s three decent looking teams in Duke, North Carolina and Pitt. Beyond that though, the rest of the conference is pretty ugly right now.
How does the conference shape up heading into Week 7?
Let’s take a look.
1. Clemson (5-0, 2-0 ACC, defeated Georgia Tech 43-24, Last Week No. 1)
The Tigers look like they could be in a class all by themselves, with two impressive performances in a row. As expected, the conference will come down to whether or not Clemson can get by Florida State. Up Next: Saturday vs. Boston College
2. Florida State (5-0, 3-0, defeated Miami 29-24, LW-2)
The Seminoles ran their conference winning streak to an impressive 27 games by beating Miami for the sixth straight time. While they didn’t look that impressive early, Florida State is just going to keep getting better week by week. Up Next: Saturday vs. Louisville
3. Duke (5-1, 2-0, defeated Army 44-3, LW-3)
This Duke defense is very good, allowing just 9.3 points per game. They allowed only seven points to BC two weeks ago and only three and 163 total yards to Army last week. Up Next: Idle
4. North Carolina (4-1, 1-0, Idle, LW-4)
The Heels are coming off a week off and have a golden opportunity to make it five in a row Saturday. Up Next: Saturday vs. Wake Forest
5. Pitt (4-1, 2-0, defeated Virginia, 26-19, LW-5)
The Panthers had to sweat one out against lowly Virginia on Saturday, but it was another big win for Pat Narduzzi. Pitt hasn’t began a season 4-1 since 2009. The Panthers are three points and a 57-yard field goal away from being 5-0. Up Next: Saturday at Georgia Tech
6. Louisville (2-3, 1-1, Idle, LW-6)
The Cardinals were also off last week and will be taking a two-game win streak into Florida State. Up Next: Saturday at Florida State
7. Miami (3-2, 0-1, lost to Florida State 29-24, LW-7)
After a nice start to the season, the Canes are coming off back-to-back losses to Cincinnati and Florida State. This week could be a tough one as Miami is just 2-6 lately following losses to FSU. The fire Al Golden campaign is gaining steam. Up Next: Saturday vs. Virginia Tech
8. Virginia Tech (3-3, 1-1, defeated North Carolina State 28-13, LW-13)
The Hokies rebounded from losses to Pitt and East Carolina by beating North Carolina State. VT can still factor into the Coastal Division race by beating Miami this week and Duke next. Up Next: Saturday at Miami
9. Wake Forest (3-3, 1-2, defeated Boston College 3-0, LW-12)
This is the highest the Deamon Deacons have ever been in these rankings after a road win, even though it was just 3-0. It was ugly, but the Deacons have already matched last season’s win total and gained the first road ACC win of the Dave Clawson era. Wake Forest being No. 9 though tells you just how bad the bottom half of the teams in the conference are. Up Next: Saturday at North Carolina
10. Syracuse (3-2, 1-0, lost to South Florida 45-24, LW-8)
Just when the Orange were starting to look somewhat decent, they lay an egg to South Florida. Up Next: Saturday at Virginia
11. North Carolina State (4-2, 0-2, lost to Virginia Tech 28-13, LW-9)
This is exactly what you get for playing a cupcake non-conference schedule. With the off week, maybe the Wolfpack can figure out their struggling offense. Up Next: Idle
12. Georgia Tech (2-4, 0-3, lost to Clemson 43-24, LW-11)
Are the Yellow Jackets the most disappointing team in the nation? Likely. A week after struggling running the football, the Yellow Jackets rushed for only 71 yards last week against Clemson. Up Next: Saturday vs. Pitt
13. Boston College (3-3, 0-3, lost to Wake Forest 3-0, LW-10)
The BC defense is really good, but the Eagles are averaging just 5.25 points per game against FBS competition. That is beyond ugly. Up Next: Saturday at Clemson
14. Virginia (1-4, 0-1, lost to Pitt 26-19, LW-14)
UVA’s only win was by six points to William & Mary. Enough said. Up Next: Saturday vs. Syracuse
