Another week of ACC football is in the books and there is clearly a line dividing the top teams in the conference from the rest.
The top five teams in the conference look like they are going to be around for the long haul. Then there’s Miami, who has the talent to compete every week. Finally there are the rest of the teams in the conference as it is hard to decipher who is really worse.
Where’s your favorite team stand?
Let’s take a look
1. Clemson (6-0, 3-0 ACC, defeated Boston College 34-17, Last Week- 1)
Another nice win for the Tigers as Deshaun Watson threw for over 400 yards against the nation’s top-ranked defense. Clemson is sitting solid at No. 6 in both polls. Up Next: Saturday at Miami
2. Florida State (6-0, 4-0, defeated Louisville 41-21, LW-2)
Everett Golson had a big day against Louisville, throwing for 372 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Louisville. Golson and Dalvin Cook are a very nice one-two punch. Up Next: Saturday at Georgia Tech
3. Duke (5-1, 2-0, Idle, LW-3)
The Blue Devils were off last week as their defense prepares for a solid second-half of the season. Duke is giving up only 9.3 points per game, which is second to Michigan nationally. Up Next: Saturday at Virginia Tech
4. North Carolina (5-1, 2-0, defeated Wake Forest 50-14, LW-4)
The Tar Heels offense looks near unstoppable at the moment. After blowing out Wake Forest, UNC leads the ACC with 40.5 points and 482.2 yards per game. Up Next: Saturday vs. Virginia
5. Pitt (5-1, 3-0, defeated Georgia Tech 31-28, LW-5)
The Panthers are ranked and are a 57-yard field goal away from being undefeated. With a show down against UNC in 10 days, the Panthers better not overlook a struggling Syracuse team this week. Most impressive is that Pitt is getting it done without last season’s ACC Player of the Year James Conner. Up Next: Saturday at Syracuse
6. Miami (4-2, 1-1, defeated Virginia Tech 30-20, LW-7)
Here’s where the separation begins as the top five teams in the conference are head and shoulders above the other nine. Miami rebounded nicely against Virginia Tech, but aren’t real contenders in the Coastal Division considering they have Duke, North Carolina and Pitt all on the road. Up Next: Saturday vs. Clemson
7. Louisville (2-4, 1-2, lost to Florida State 41-21, LW-6)
The Cardinals have exactly one win over an FBS team this season and they are No. 7. That is all you need to know about how bad the teams are outside the top six in the conference. Up Next: Saturday vs. Boston College
8. Virginia Tech (3-4, 1-2, lost to Miami 30-20, LW-8)
The Hokies are among a number of teams that have been disappointments. Things don’t get much easier the rest of the way either. Up Next: Saturday vs. Duke
9. Wake Forest (3-4, 1-3, lost to North Carolina 50-14, LW-9)
The Deamon Deacons allowed three points two weeks ago and 50 last week. But as of now they are better than some of the teams behind them. Up Next: Saturday vs. North Carolina State
10. Virginia (2-4, 1-1, defeated Syracuse 44-38, LW-14)
The Hoos have been ranked dead last for most of the season and finally got a win that was against someone other than William & Mary. They jump to number 10. Another sign of how bad the bottom of the conference really is. Up Next: Saturday at North Carolina
11. North Carolina State (4-2, 0-2, Idle, LW-10)
The Wolfpack were off last week and still don’t have a meaningful win on their resume this season. Up Next: Saturday at Wake Forest
12. Boston College (3-4, 0-3, lost to Clemson 34-17, LW-13)
The Eagles defense played well against Clemson for a half, but when they give up points, the BC offense can’t help as they may be the worst unit in the entire country. Up Next: Saturday at Louisville
13. Syracuse (3-3, 1-1, lost to Virginia 44-38, LW-10)
After thinking that maybe this Syracuse team could be decent, the Orange have had back-to-back terrible losses against South Florida and Virginia. Up Next: Saturday vs. Pitt
14. Georgia Tech (2-5, 0-4, lost to Pitt 31-28, LW-12)
After the first two weeks of the season, this Yellow Jackets team sat No. 1 in these rankings. How quickly they have fallen all the way to the bottom. Five consecutive losses and a sixth likely on the way this weekend. Up Next: Saturday vs. Georgia Tech
