Gerrit Cole earned his 17th win as the Pirates beat the Dodgers 4-3 yesterday afternoon. Pedro Alvarez and Starling Marte both hit home runs. The Bucs are now four games behind St. Louis and two ahead of the Cubs.
Marte made another outfield assist on Sunday, his NL-leading 15th of the season, and continues to make a case for his first NL Gold Glove award.
The Steelers opened their 2015 home schedule with a resounding 43-18 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
Steelers writer Gar Bercury had his weekly three up and three down after the game, and Steelers editor Matt Shetler handed out some grades in his Monday report card.
Our writers also submitted their weekly NFL picks on Sunday morning. Alan Saunders remains in the lead, but Gar Bercury has drawn even with him after posting the only winning record in Week 2.
