On this date in 2001, former Penguins right-winger Rick Kehoe was hired as the team’s head coach after incumbent Ivan Hlinka was dismissed following an 0-4 start. Kehoe coached the Pens until the end of the 2002-03 season, amassing a 55–81–14 record.
As a player, Kehoe played 11 seasons with the Pens, scoring 312 goals and recording 626 points. He is currently a professional scout for the New York Rangers.
