Pittsburgh headlines:
The Bucs eight-game winning streak was stopped by Cubs ace Jake Arrieta on Sunday night. Arrieta pitched seven scoreless innings and allowed only one hit en route to a 4-0 victory for the Cubs at Wrigley.
The Steelers (2-1) won an ugly 12-6 decision over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, losing Roethlisberger to injury in the process.
From the news desk, Roethlisberger is expected to miss four to six weeks with a sprained MCL. Although not as bad as initially feared, the Steelers will be without Big Ben for quite some time.
Beat writer Gar Bercury has his weekly three up and three down after the Steelers/Rams tilt.
Our writes also made their typically-awful Week 3 NFL picks.
The Penguins Quebecois players — Marc Andre Fleury, Kris Letang, Jean-Sebastien Dea, David Perron and Pascal Dupuis — are all expected to play tonight in Quebec City.
On this date in 1996, Penn State became the sixth school in college football history to win 700. The Nittany Lions, undefeated and ranked No. 3 in the country beat the Wisconsin Badgers 23-20 at Camp Randall Stadium
The matchup of star running backs Curtis Enis and Ron Dayne was decided when PSU kicker Brett Conway (right, No. 20) kicked a chip-shot field goal with 1:23 left after a long pass from Wally Richardson to Joe Jurevicius put Penn State into range.
He said it: “Ben is a competitor and we are confident he will do everything in his power to return at the appropriate time.” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin on his quarterback’s recovery from injury.
