Pittsburgh Pirates centerfielder Andrew McCutchen has been elected to the Arizona Fall League Hall of Fame.
McCutchen participated in the 2007 Arizona Fall League for the Phoenix Desert Dogs where he posted a .286/.381/.378 slash line and a .758 OPS with five doubles, two triples, four RBI, 13 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 11 chances.
The 28-year-old is one of the youngest players to get the call to the Arizona Fall League Hall of Fame, but the accolades McCutchen has already received back up the reasoning for the early call.
In six seasons in the Majors, McCutchen has three top-three finishes in NL MVP voting with one MVP Award, one Gold Glove award, three Silver Slugger Awards, five All-Star appearances and a fourth place finish in the 2009 NL Rookie-of-the-Year voting.
“At 28, Andrew McCutchen is one of the youngest players to merit AFL Hall of Fame consideration and election,” said Steve Cobb, The director of the Arizona Fall League, in a statement. “He has become one of baseball’s elite players in a very short time.”
McCutchen joins Philadelphia Phillies second basemen Chase Utley in this year’s class.
The Arizona Fall League Hall of Fame was established in 2001 to recognize the top Major League players and managers who spent time honing their skills in the league.
