The Pittsburgh Steelers announced early Friday morning that wide receiver Antonio Brown is out for Sunday’s AFC Divisional Round game against the Denver Broncos with a concussion. Brown, who will still travel with the team to Mile High Stadium, suffered a concussion against the Cincinnati Bengals and has not practiced all week.
That’s a huge loss for the Steelers. Last time the Steelers faced the Broncos, Brown was the leading receiver with 189 yards, 16 catches, and two touchdowns. In games since the Dec. 20 game against the Broncos at Heinz Field, Brown has been on top in leading the receiving corps with catches and yards. Since Dec. 20, Brown has scored 10 touchdowns for the Steelers this season and in nine out of 17 games had over 100 yards receiving.
Making the situation more interesting is the linger comments from the Bengals this week as the Steelers have prepared for Denver. Adam Jones, who was one of two players called for a personal foul on the last drive of last weekend’s thrilling game, said that he thought Brown was faking it. Jones mentioned on the Dan Patrick Show that he asked Brown after he was hit if he was OK and Brown replied with a wink. Jones also appeared on NFL Network’s “Inside the NFL” show on Tuesday and told interviewer, and New York Jets wide receiver, Brandon Marshall that he’d apologize if Brown didn’t play.
“I will send out an apology,” Jones said. “If he don’t play. But you know and I know that when Saturday gets here, all of that is going out the window, man. When Saturday gets here, whatever time they play, he’s going to be cleared Friday,” Jones said. “I promise you: 24 hours before the game.”
The Steelers will release a full injury report after their practice today, the team announced.
