With the free agency period about to officially heat up on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers made their first significant offseason move to this point on Monday by re-signing outside linebacker Arthur Moats.
The team announced the signing as it will be a three-year deal. Terms were not disclosed.
Moats, who signed with the Steelers prior to last offseason, played in each of the teams 16 regular season games, getting 10 starts.
He recorded 23 tackles (17 solo), six quarterback hits, four tackles for losses, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Moats also set a career high with four quarterback sacks.
Moats, prior to signing with the Steelers last season spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills.
This was a move that the Steelers almost had to make as currently Jarvis Jones was the only outside linebacker on the roster.
The team won’t be done with the Moats signing as they will likely add a couple more outside linebackers via free agency and the draft. If the team can add another significant body at the position, Moats will serve as a very nice depth piece.
Currently both Jason Worilds and James Harrison are also free agents and there are no signs either will be brought back for the 2015 season.
