The Pitt Panthers football team may have its problems on the field, but you have to give them credit for scheduling well. Unlike many teams in the country the Panthers have always scheduled well out of conference. Now that they are in the ACC, that trend will continue. Pitt has announced a home-and-home series with Oklahoma State beginning in 2016. The 2016 contest will take place at Boone Pickens, while the series will shift to Heinz Field in 2017. Adding a Big 12 Conference ... Read More
Don’t blame the team, blame the GHAD disease
There is a distinctively sad air to the general population of this region, and it has been building for several months now. Spreading like wildfire as of late, the origin of your malaise is widely misunderstood. I have been tirelessly researching with the assistance of noted psychologist Dr. Miller-Lite, as well as consulting with a lifelong Detroit Lions fan to uncover the true nature of this malady, and as it turns out, the disease already has a name. Gridiron Hopelessness Affective ... Read More
It’s all about one thing for Steelers fans
Last week, a fellow colleague wrote an article debating on whether or not Ben Roethlisberger is an elite quarterback in the NFL. A war of words ensued, as Pittsburgh's faithful came to the defense of their quarterback. In the article, a couple of interesting facts were pointed out: Roethlisberger has zero MVP awards; In the three Super Bowl appearances, he's never been crowned Super Bowl MVP; Ben has never been named All-Pro; He’s had only one season where he was in the top five in ... 2013 is a necessary evil for the Steelers
The 2-6 record that the Pittsburgh Steelers trudge into the second half of the 2013 with has electrified their fan base in a way many have never experienced. It is a complete reversal of the campaign enjoyed by the Pittsburgh Pirates this past summer when they took their long-suffering fans on a joy ride that was two decades in the making. The Steelers have been spoiling their fans since 1992, the first season that Bill Cowher took the reigns of a struggling franchise that had been run into ... Read More
Steelers Report Card after embarrassing loss to Pats
Sunday was a must-win situation for the Pittsburgh Steelers if they wanted any hope of hanging on to their slim playoff chances. Instead of playing with must-win intensity, the Steelers were embarrassed by the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium, dropping to 2-6 on the season with a 55-31 loss. Sadly the Steelers had momentum and tied the game at 24 in the third quarter, but the Pats scored on five consecutive drives in the second half and scored 31 of the game’s final 38 points. At the ... Will Jamie Dixon shrink rotation in 2014?
One of the strengths of the 2012-13 Pitt Panthers basketball team was the extraordinary depth that Panthers' head coach Jamie Dixon had at his disposal as Pitt was one of the rare teams in the country that could run 10 competent bodies out on a nightly basis. That's something that will likely change this season. Gone form that deep 2013 team are five players who were among the top eight Panthers in terms of minutes played. Steven Adams is in the NBA. Tray Woodall and Dante Taylor have ... Read More
Patriots break record, Steelers spirits in blowout win
The rich, storied history of the Pittsburgh Steelers has seen, other than countless winning seasons and six Super Bowl victories, plenty of struggles as well. Not until Sunday, November 3, however, have the black and gold been so manhandled by an opposing offense. Today's sixty minutes played just outside of Boston were not kind to the Steelers (2-6), as the defense allowed a franchise-record 55 points in a 55-31 thrashing at the hands of the New England Patriots (7-2). Tom Brady and his ... Read More
Steelers prepare for first-place Patriots
A trying season continues for the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-5) in Foxboro, MA on Sunday when they take on the New England Patriots (6-2) at Gillette Stadium. Tom Brady and his first-place team are 4-0 at home, while the Steelers are 1-3 away from Heinz Field. It will be tenth meeting between the two teams since Tom Brady became the starter in 2001; New England leads the series 6-3 in that span. Pittsburgh has won two of the last three matches, including the last one played at New England, a ... Read More
Panthers must cut back on the fouls to contend in ACC
As Jamie Dixon’s Pitt Panthers basketball team prepares to begin its inaugural ACC season, the anthers could be in for quite the transition. For the Panthers to find themselves among the ACC’s best teams at seasons end, they have to get back to doing one thing- playing great defense. On the surface, Pitt’s defense was a typical good Panthers defense last season as they allowed only 0.94 points allowed per possession, which was good for third in the Big East Conference. However if you ... Read More
Penguin of the Week: Chris Kunitz
The Penguins had another strong week, going 4-0 this past week of play. In those four wins there was a common theme: Chris Kunitz scoring a goal. None of Kunitz's goals were of great importance. He didn't win any shootouts or score on a last second breakaway goal, but he was consistent. To start the week out, Kunitz scored a goal in the Pens 3-1 win over Carolina. He had six shots on the night and finished with 2 +/- rating. His goal put the Pens ahead for the win. On Wednesday, he, again, ... Read More
