ATLANTA - The Bucs lost their second straight game, and dropped their second consecutive series in Atlanta tonight by the score of 5-4. Jeff Locke was on the hill for the Pirates and didn't have his best stuff. He allowed three runs through 5.2 innings. He was pulled after 103 pitches for recently called up Ryan Reid who blew the lead almost instantly. Reid allowed a two-run homer to B.J. Upton in the bottom of the sixth which tied the game up at 4-4. Tony Watson and Jason Grilli each ... Read More
Wild Things fall in first of six-game homestand
The game started out smoothly for Shawn Smith and the Wild Things, but as Smith started to make mistakes, the Frontier Greys capitalized on those mistakes. The Greys hit two timely home runs en route to a 5-2 victory over the Wild Things at Console Energy Park. Smith started out the game with seven straight outs and took a 2-0 lead into the top of the third inning. In the bottom of the second, designated hitter Mark Samuelson walked, stole a baseand was later driven in by Nick Akins. Jim ... Read More
Have the Penguins given up?
The Penguins can't be this bad. Can they? Soft in goal, porous and disoriented on defense, and with forwards working under the misguided belief that the game is intended to be played in only one (read: offensive) end, the Penguins Monday night officially surrendered their free pass and executive limo ride to the Stanley Cup Final. Look, there is no disputing Pittsburgh’s offensive talent. Anyone would envy their collection of skilled forwards. Take Jarome Iginla, for example. He was so ... Read More

Bruins dismantle Penguins; take 2-0 series lead
After Game 1, you could make a case that the Penguins played well enough to win only to fall on the side of bad luck. In Game 2, not so much. The Boston Bruins destroyed the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-1, Monday night, taking a commanding 2-0 series lead with the chance to advance to the Stanley Cup on home ice. Brad Marchand's goal just 28 seconds into the game stunned the hometown crowd and gave the Bruins an early 1-0 lead. Sidney Crosby misplayed the puck on the right point and Marchand ... Read More
Pirates downed by Braves on the road
The Pittsburgh Pirates kept up their trend of losing the first game of the series Monday night as they fell to the Atlanta Braves, 7-2. The Pirates started out on top, scoring off of a Gaby Sanchez ground rule double in the 3rd inning, but everything went downhill in the 4th. First, starting pitcher AJ Burnett gave up a two-run shot to Brian McCann, driving in Freddie Freeman, who walked to start off the inning. Then, after some arguable calls, manager Clint Hurdle and catcher Russell Martin ... Read More
Pitt’s Travon Woodall to work out for Washington Wizards
While all the attention in June's NBA Draft will go to freshman center Steven Adams, another former Panther is still holding onto dreams of playing in the NBA. Former Pitt point guard Tray Woodall is scheduled to work out for the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, his first workout with any NBA team. Woodall is coming off a highly productive career with the Panthers where he played in 139 games in five seasons, including 10 as a freshman in what would be a redshirt season due to injury. He ... Wild Things lose 19 inning thriller, rebound in game two
When the Washington Wild Things were rained out on Saturday night, I don't think they planned on playing a true double-header the next day. But that's exactly what they did. After losing 4-3 in a long fought battle in 19 innings to the Windy City ThunderBolts, the Wild Things managed to win the second game of the day, winning 5-3 over the ThunderBolts. The Wild Things took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first with two of those runs coming off a Jovan Rosa double. The next at-bat, Rick ... Read More

After salvaging the final game of their home series with division rival Cincinnati, the Pirates are making some roster moves to bolster their bullpen as they head out on a six-game road trip to face the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs. The Pirates are adding RHP Jared Hughes and RHP Ryan Reid from AAA-Indianapolis in time for the 7:10pm start with the Braves tonight. Hughes is making his return to the Bucs after being sent to AAA in May. He was a big part of the Pirates 2012 bullpen, ... Read More
Steelers may look to replace Polamalu after 2013
Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark was all over ESPN during the off-season. Clark, admittedly, is hoping to become an NFL analyst and broadcaster for ESPN after he leaves football. According to Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated Clark approached ESPN senior coordinating producer Seth Markman during Super Bowl week to ask him about a future with the sport’s broadcasting giant: Clark has always enjoyed being in front of the cameras and giving his opinion. He went on ESPN after ... Read More
