Heading into the 2013 NFL Draft the Pittsburgh Steelers were expected to take a project quarterback to start grooming as a back-up and potential future starter. However, when they drafted Oklahoma’s Landry Jones in the fourth round of the draft it was much higher in the draft than most expected for them to target a quarterback. Immediately afterward fans were wondering why they had drafted a quarterback so early with other needs on the team and were worried that it may mean something about Ben ... Read More
A healthy Pens team is scary for the rest of the league
Sidney Crosby is set to meet with a doctor today to determine whether or not he can play in the Penguins’ first playoff game on Wednesday. If he is cleared, the Penguins will be healthy, well healthy enough to play, nobody is really 100 percent at this point of the season. It’s scary good how good they could be when all are healthy and on the ice together. If you remember Crosby got hurt in his first shift of the game against Tampa Bay. That was also Jarome Iginla’s first game in a Penguin ... Read More
Steelers begin to sort out Running Back issues
In the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Michigan State Le’Veon Bell who is expected to become the team’s new feature back. He could get a chance to start as a rookie depending on how he performs during off-season workouts and training camp. It was expected all along that the Steelers would select a new running back in this year’s draft, but many though they would wait until the later rounds. Bell was expected to be the Steelers pick in the third round by ... Read More
Can Letang stay disciplined in the playoffs?
In Game 3 of last year's horrific quarterfinal matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers, Kris Letang had the most undisciplined game of his NHL career, and arguably his worst. The defenseman took a cross-checking penalty that led to a Flyers goal. Shortly thereafter, he got in a fight with Kimmo Timonen, then was ejected from the game. To make matters worse, he attempted to shush the Philadelphia crowd like Max Talbot did in 2009. Like the Penguins, he was unsuccessful. This all came ... Read More
Pirates are proving to be a contender
The Major League Baseball Season is only 25 games old, but the Pirates are showing that they are good enough to battle with the elites of the National League. So far this season they have faced some pretty stiff competition, such as the Dodgers, Braves, and Reds. Last week they had a ten-game home-stand when the Reds, Cardinals, and the Braves came into town. Those 10 games were shortened to nine because of a rainout, but in those nine games the Buccos went 7-2. That’s pretty legit if you ... Read More
The Pittsburgh Housewife: “I will get my hockey on!”
The Housewife has been absent. I know. Fortunately, I have a lot of good things happening in my personal life that has taken up 99% of my time in the past month. Onto hockey! The playoffs start on Tuesday, for the Pens it starts on Wednesday where they will be taking on the Islanders. I stand by what I said at the beginning of the half season that I don’t think there should be playoffs, but who listens to the Housewife? Not the NHL. Since it’s going to happen regardless of what I think all ... Read More
Pitt forward J.J. Moore reportedly to leave program
It's been a rough month for the Pitt football and basketball programs and the news just keeps getting worse. According to several reports, senior forward J.J. Moore is transferring from the program. CBS Sports Jon Rothstein is one of the sources reporting Moore's intent to transfer, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ray Fittipaldo has reported that while Moore very well may be transferring, he has yet to ask for his official release and hasn’t filled out his transfer papers yet. Pitt's ... Read More
Pittsburgh Power Offense Sputters In Loss To Talons
Pittsburgh Power games might air on ThisTV these days, but perhaps Nick-At-Nite would be a better choice for a network. Every Power game I’ve watched this year seems to be a rerun and I think we all know how the show ends. One week after taking a few steps forward on offense this time the Power (1-4) settled back into their usual struggling selves and lost a game that was easily within reach. This time the beneficiaries of their generosity were the San Antonio Talons (2-3) who defeated the ... Read More
Ray Graham, other Pitt players sign free agent deals
For the second consecutive year, the NFL Draft came and went without a Pitt Panthers player hearing his name called. Running back Ray Graham had the best chance of being drafted, but he had to sit by and wait as running back after running back went off the board during the third day of the draft, but never heard his name called. It's not the worst thing though for Graham and other former Panthers that has aspirations of playing in the NFL. Sometimes going undrafted benefits the player ... Read More
