Arena football may be known for all the offense scored in it, but having some dominant defensive talent can go a long way towards separating a team from pretender and contender status. The Power have been very focused on the defensive side of the ball but until today, they were still looking for a strong presence in the middle of their defense. The Pittsburgh Power announced today that they have been assigned 1st team All-Arena jack linebacker Alvin Ray Jackson. Jackson was a monster in the ... Read More
Duquesne Dukes Look Back at Missed Opportunities
When Duquesne Dukes head coach Jerry Schmitt looks back on the 2012 season, he will look back on missed opportunities and a great senior class. While it will be very hard to replace a successful class of seniors that included: running back Larry McCoy, quarterback Sean Patterson, safety Serge Kona, linebacker Horvin Latimer and others, it will be the missed opportunities throughout the season that prevented this Dukes team from potentially repeating their success from a season ago and ... Jamie Dixon has options to replace Trey Zeigler
Much has been made of the depth that Jamie Dixon's Pitt Panthers currently have and with the news of Trey Zeigler's suspension, that depth will be tested immediately. However the loss of Zeigler may not be felt as badly as some people may believe. Dixon has consistently been playing 10 guys and it's fair to think that number would shrink anyway once Big East Conference play begins. Zeigler, a former top 30 recruit, has been Dixon's first guard off the bench in most games, but has received ... Read More
Shippensburg’s season ends at the hands of undefeated Winston-Salem State
Shippensburg’s historic season ended Saturday with a 37-14 loss to power house and No. 2 ranked Winston-Salem State. The Raiders’ day seemed like it was going to be a long one when the Ram’s first drive was a three-play 70-yard strike that happened before you even realized the game had started. Shippensburg’s offense couldn’t respond, but their defense did the next time the Rams had the ball. Brian Sourber intercepted a pass and ran it back 63 yards. Suddenly, Shippensburg was only down by one ... Read More
Trey Zeigler Charged with DUI, Suspended Indefinitely
Through six games, Jamie Dixon's Pitt Panthers have shown great depth en route to a 5-1 start to the season, but junior transfer guard Trey Zeigler will be testing exactly how deep the Panthers really are. Zeigler has been charged with driving under the influence, stemming from an incident over the weekend. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Zeigler will "be charged by mail summons with two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence. Details of the arrest were not immediately ... Read More
Pittsburgh Steelers Week 12 Report Card
The Pittsburgh Steelers did not fare well Sunday in Cleveland turning in an ugly overall effort in a 20-14 loss that could prove very costly in the long run. On the day, the Steelers had more penalties (nine) and turnovers (eight), than points the offense put up (seven). While it was an ugly day offensively, the Steelers' defense didn't play very bad- at least good enough to beat the Browns. With that being said, let's take a look at how the Steelers graded out in my weekly report ... Read More
Go Mendenhall and take Mike Wallace with you
Goodbye Rashard Mendenhall and while you're at it, take Mike Wallace with you. The Steelers need a real running back whose not afraid to get hit and wont shoot his mouth off every few weeks on Twitter. Your four injury plagued years have helped minimally while you continue to fumble your way back onto the bench. Heading into yesterday's game, your offense had a plan to pound the football with you leading the charge. Against one of the league's worst rushing defenses, you were supposed to ... Read More
Steelers lose tough game to Browns
The Steelers dropped their fifth game of the season to the Cleveland Browns this afternoon. With Ben Roethlisberger missing his second consecutive game, turnovers killed the team, as they finished the game with eight. The game opened up with an explosive play by Lawrence Timmons. On a ball tipped by Brett Keisel, Timmons grabbed it out of the air and took it 53 yards to get the Steelers on the board with a 7-0 lead. The Steelers would force a three-and-out which led to their first turnover ... Read More
Pitt Keeps Bowl Hopes Alive With Upset Win Over Rutgers
The 2012 season for Paul Chryst and the Pitt Panthers has been filled with more ups-and-downs than a roller coaster ride at your favorite theme park. That trend continued Saturday afternoon at Heinz Field. After laying an egg in terms of effort their last time out, the Panthers used an inspired effort on both sides of the ball and came away with a 27-6 upset win over No. 18 Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights came into the game with one of the best defenses in the country, but it was the ... Read More
Pitt’s Bigs Dominate in Win Over Delaware
Well that was more like it. Just two days after suffering their first loss of the season to No. 4 Michigan, Jamie Dixon's Pitt Panthers bounced back nicely with an 85-59 victory over Delaware in the Consolation Game of the Preseason NIT in Madison Square Garden. And they did it the way they won the first four games of the season- with great defense, balanced scoring and a big day from their frontcourt. The Panthers had five players in double figures on the night and the starting ... Read More
