The Football Writers Association of America announced its 75th Anniversary All-America Team on Thursday and the Pitt Panthers were very well represented as five former Pitt legends made one of the three teams. The five Panthers selected were tight end Mike Ditka, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, running back Tony Dorsett, offensive lineman Bill Fralic and defensive end Hugh Green. Fitzgerald was a first-team selection while the other four were named to the second team. The five Pitt ... Read More
Part 1: Penguins 2015 Top-10 prospects
In the last decade, the Pittsburgh Penguins have seen some of the most intriguing and high-profile prospects in the entire National Hockey League come through their system. Even as the team's big-time draft picks of the early 2000's turned into NHL stars, the team was still touted for their defensive depth. Those days, however, have passed. Now, after a series of trades and a few players that have moved on to full time NHL positions, the cupboard is once again looking rather bare. Corey ... Read More
2015 Fantasy Football Outlook: Heath Miller
Here is another in our fantasy football series looking at the Pittsburgh Steelers. Today we move on to tight end Heath Miller. While there is a lot to like about all of the other Steelers playmakers in terms of fantasy value, when it comes to Miller that is not really the case. When drafting a tight end, it’s pretty simple. There’s Rob Gronkowski and everyone else. If you’re not getting Gronk early, it makes very little sense to draft a tight end early on. Miller can be had very late ... Read More
Steelers release QB Tajh Boyd
The Pittsburgh Steelers brought in a couple quarterbacks with strong college pedigrees this offseason, but none of them will stick with the team throughout camp. According to sources, the Steelers have released former Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd. That came just a week after the team released former Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner, who was also getting reps at wide receiver. Boyd was brought in this season to compete with Landry Jones for the team’s No. 3 quarterback spot, but Boyd ... Read More
Five Takeaways from Steelers preseason loss to Jaguars
The Pittsburgh Steelers fell to 0-2 on the preseason with Saturday’s 23-21 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The score and the result doesn’t matter as much as the fact that the Steelers came out of the game relatively healthy. Here are five important takeaways from Week 2 of the preseason. 1. The first team offense is scary It was only one series, but Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers first-team offense made a statement by making things look easy. The moved the ball 80 yards on ... 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook: Markus Wheaton
This is another part in a series looking at the Pittsburgh Steelers and how they will fare in terms of fantasy football production in 2015. While the Steelers top two receivers- Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant- have much hype around them, the hype is not there for Markus Wheaton. But should there be? Many are projecting Bryant for a huge breakout season, but realistically couldn’t the same be said for Wheaton? I believe it could be and am looking to get some shares of Wheaton ... Read More
Penguins bring Gonchar in for tryout contract
The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Friday that they are bringing back Sergei Gonchar on a tryout contract. The veteran free agent Gonchar played with star center Evgeni Malkin for Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Russian Superleague back in 2004-05 and after the lockout ended, signed with the Penguins. He spent five seasons in Pittsburgh, serving as an alternate captain for four of them, and was an integral part of their playoff success in 2008 and 2009. Gonchar was an excellent power play ... 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook: Martavis Bryant
Here is another in a series of looking at the Pittsburgh Steelers in terms of their potential 2015 fantasy football impact. Today I take a look at second-year wide receiver Martavis Bryant. After being inactive the first seven games of the year as a rookie, Bryant broke on the scene in a big way last year to close the year. While only catching 26 passes on the season, eight of those went for touchdowns. Bryant also had a whopping 21.1 yards per catch average. In the process Bryant ... Read More
T.Y. Hilton deal could mean Antonio Brown extension could be near
The big news on Thursday around the NFL was the announcement of a five-year contract extension for Indianapolis Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton. The extension wasn't just good news for Hilton and his agent Drew Rosenhaus, it was also good news for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown. Hilton's extension, along with any contract signed by a wide receiver, like recent extensions for Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas, only help set the market for Brown. As the NFL's best wide ... Five takeaways from Steelers preseason opener
The Pittsburgh Steelers got off to a slow start during Sunday’s 14-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in the Hall of Fame Game. The score doesn’t matter at all, neither does the result. What does matter is the things that we can take away from the Steelers first performance. With that being said, here’s five takeaways from the Steelers first preseason game. 1. The Steelers defense shows off its speed Gone are the veterans and in their place are a bunch of youngsters with speed. That is ... Read More
