What makes a sport, a sport?
With the success of the Pittsburgh Thunderbirds this year, we at Pittsburgh Sporting News had one question; what actually makes a sport? Two of our reporters are making their case as to why ultimate Frisbee, NASCAR and more are and are not sports. Which side are you on? In the midst of a seemingly fan-dominated sports culture, the sport itself becomes obfuscated. We enter into arguments with undertones of the questions “Is that really a sport?” and “What makes a sport, a sport?” ... Read More
Column: Could Franklin be Penn State’s “Great One?”
It is not out of the realm of believability to say that James Franklin’s 2014 was pretty good. Great, even. In January, he was hired to be the head football coach of a fairly prestigious university (a team in his home state that he grew up watching, nonetheless), he scraped out a winning season despite having a severely depleted team, and he led Penn State to its first bowl game since 2012 and it’s first bowl win since 2010. So the question becomes this: will 2015 bring greatness for ... Read More

We have already heard that defensive end Cameron Heyward is expected to get a new deal and there were also some early rumblings that wide receiver Antonio Brown would like a new contract as well. Yet one guy that has seemed to get lost in the shuffle when talking about new contracts is just as important as anyone else that needs a new deal. Offensive tackle ... Read More
