It may have been ugly sweater night at Consol Energy Center, but the Pittsburgh Penguins performance was anything but ugly as they beat the Florida Panthers 3-1. It was the fifth consecutive home victory for the Pens, and they are 5-0-2 in their last seven games “Florida pushed us very hard. I thought those guys responded really well,” said coach Mike Johnston on the challenging and physical game. Derrick Pouliot made his NHL debut in style, scoring the game-winning goal with his first NHL ... Read More
Troy Polamalu inactive vs. Chiefs
As kickoff nears at Heinz Field between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs, a game that contains major playoff implications, the Steelers will be without a couple of starters on the defensive side of the ball. Safety Troy Polamalu tops the Steelers list of inactives Sunday. The veteran didn't practice all week and is out with a knee injury. Polamalu missed two games earlier this year because of knee problems. Cornerback Ike Taylor is also inactive on Sunday. The veteran is out ... Read More

Pitt survives scare from Oakland
The Pitt Panthers simply do not like to play the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. For the second time in three years the Golden Grizzlies pushed Pitt to the limit, but the Panthers used some excellent free-throw shooting to survive a scare, defeating Oakland 81-77 in overtime for their fourth consecutive victory. The last time Pitt and Oakland met was on Nov. 17, 2012, a 72-62 Pitt win in overtime. The Panthers had to come back from down 18 in the second half in that one. They had to come from ... Read More

Pitt will hire football coach before AD
With the recent shakeup with the Pitt football program, Pitt chancellor Patrick Gallagher and interim athletic director Dr. Randy Juhl have some work to do to fill the vacant positions of AD and football coach. All signs point to the football coach coming first. While it is true that Pitt needs to get a football coach in place before some of the top candidates are off the board, it is also a less than ideal situation for potential hires. You would have to think that here would be a bit ... Read More
Pitt loses two recruits after coaching turnover
As soon as former Pitt head coach Paul Chryst announced his decision to take the Wisconsin job, you knew it wouldn't be long before it had an impact on the current recruiting class. It happened rather quickly as the Panthers have had a pair of commits already re-opened their recruitments. Rob Dowdy, a three star linemen from Ohio, and Sekai Lindsay, a three star running back from Florida have officially de-committed from Pitt. Dowdy is a big and physical lineman that Chryst loved and ... Read More
Troy Polamalu, Ike Taylor doubtful vs. Chiefs
The Pittsburgh Steelers will look to continue their winning streak on Sunday vs. the Kansas City Chiefs at Heinz Field, but will likely have to do so without a couple bodies in their secondary. Both safety Troy Polamalu and cornerback Ike Taylor are listed as doubtful for Sunday's tilt. Polamalu (knee) didn't practice at all this week and looks like he will be out of action. If that is indeed the case, veteran Will Allen will likely draw the starting nod opposite Mike Mitchell. There's ... Read More
Pinstripe Ushers in New Era for Penn State
The news is out, the nerves have cleared, and the pressure is on. Penn State is about to compete in its 45th bowl appearance. This is a big game for the Lions. A lot has changed since then – they’ve had two new coaches, a host of new players, and a new attitude. The 2012 TicketCity Bowl was rough on the team; they had just lost a beloved coach, ... Cameron Wright’s return has Pitt heading in right direction
The Pitt Panthers basketball team returned home from an up-and-down month away from Pittsburgh and quickly have seen the fortunes change. Much of that has to do with the return of senior guard Cameron Wright, who finally looked like himself Wednesday night, scoring 14 points in 34 minutes of action in his third game back recovering from a foot injury. That was a big leap forward for Wright, who had scored only one point in his prior two games, playing a total of 22 minutes. Wednesday against ... Read More
