Part of the reason that the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets fell short of their goal of a President's Athletic Conference championship a year ago is that quarterback Carter Hill simply had to do way too much. Waynesburg simply couldn't run the football and while the Jackets' offense as one of the best in the PAC, it had to rely on Hill's arm on almost every play. That's not the case this season for the 5-1 Yellow Jackets. Speaking to both Hill and Waynesburg head coach Rick Shepas before the ... Read More
PSAC West is running wild
At this point in the college football season, teams are starting to establish identities. The same goes for players, and the PSAC West is turning into a running league. Three of the top five rushers in the PSAC come from the West and all three are at the top of the leader board. Slippery Rock's Shamar Greene remains atop the list, averaging 147.8 yards per game with 887 overall — even after a bad week. Gannon's Brock Jones is nipping at his heels, though, with 855 overall (142.5 per game). ... Read More
Don’t look now…Steelers a step behind the Browns, among others
In 2014, the National Football League is one in which there are weekly stories regarding player suspensions and arrests. It is one in which the Dallas Cowboys, who appeared to have no semblance of a defense entering the season, are 5-1 after they just beat the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in front of that loud and proud "12th man" crowd. It is one in which Tom Brady and Drew Brees have shown signs of mortality, Bruce Arians leads a 4-1 Arizona team, and players are being fined more for ... Read More

Another Sunday has come and gone and for Mike Tomlin’s Pittsburgh Steelers, that means yet another disappointing loss, this time a 31-10 beat down at the hands of the Cleveland Browns. The Steelers were dominated in this one and there is a lot of blame to go around. Were there any positives to take away from yet another disappointing performance? I take a look in my latest Steelers Report Card. Quarterback: Ben Roethlisberger did not play well and only completed 50 percent of his passes, his ... Read More

Browns use big second quarter to pummel Steelers
The Cleveland Browns (3-2) proved that they are a force to be reckoned with Sunday, dominating the Pittsburgh Steelers (3-3) at FirstEnergy Stadium in a 31-10 victory. Cleveland's win avenged an earlier loss this season, when Pittsburgh won 30-27 on a last-second field goal in the Week 1 season opener. Pittsburgh controlled the game early, leading 3-0 after one, but squandered opportunities kept that lead small and short-lived. The Browns completely turned the tables in the second quarter, ... Wolverines hand Nittany Lions second straight conference loss
Penn State’s (4-2, 1-2 Big Ten) failed attempt at an onside kick in the fourth quarter combined with a magnificent show of perseverance through pain from quarterback Devin Gardner left Michigan (3-4, 1-2 Big Ten) on top by a score of 18-13 on Saturday night in Ann Arbor. Penn State senior kicker Sam Ficken opened the scoring with a 35-yard field goal 5:32 into the first half. Michigan determinedly answered just three minutes later with a 43-yard touchdown from wide receiver Devin Funchess, who ... Read More
Pens in control throughout at Toronto
Two down, 80 to go in the NHL regular season for the Pittsburgh Penguins (2-0-0, 4 pts), and another dominant performance. This time, it was on the road at Toronto's Air Canada Centre, where the Penguins won 5-2 over the Maple Leafs (0-2-0, 0 pts). Pittsburgh was in control throughout, again scoring three times in the opening period. Adding one in the second and one in the third, a balanced and relentless attack was too much for the Maple Leafs to handle. One of the team's many new faces, ... Read More
Steelers, Browns clash in AFC North showdown
On the shores of Lake Erie on Sunday afternoon, the Cleveland Browns (2-2) get a second chance. When the Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2) invade the turf at FirstEnergy Stadium, Cleveland has a chance to avenge a 30-27 defeat in Pittsburgh in the Week 1 opener. They have a chance to jump ahead of their hated rivals in the standings. And, perhaps most importantly, they have a chance to prove that they should have been the favorites against the Steelers, something that does not happen very often when ... Read More
