It’s no secret that the WPIAL produces some of the country’s top football talent. There are plenty of NFL players who claim Western Pennsylvania as their stomping grounds. In the 2010 season, WPIAL on-lookers may remember a stiff battle for the area’s top rushing title between Hopewell’s Rushel Shell and Steel Valley’s Delrece Williams. Shell has since set the career-mark for WPIAL rushing yardage by gaining over 9,000 yards on the ground, signed to play at Pitt and has moved on to West ... Read More

Pitt downed by Virginia for third straight loss
The Pitt Panthers gave their fans hope with their 3-0 start to the season, but have since come back to earth. Their slide continued Saturday night with a 24-19 loss to Virginia, Pitt’s first ACC loss of the season and third defeat overall. Cavaliers’ running back Kevin Parks ran for a career-best 169 yards and a touchdown and the solid Virginia defense slowed down the Panthers rushing attack in the win. Steelers visit young, struggling Jaguars
With combined records of just 2-6, the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-2) and Jacksonville Jaguars (0-4) have not started their respective seasons on much of a positive note. At Jacksonville's EverBank Field on Sunday, the Steelers will try to bounce back from a 27-24 loss to the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while the Jaguars are not only trying to get in the win column, but simply compete in a game. Gus Bradley's team has not recovered from blowing a Week 1 lead at Philadelphia, losing that game by 17 ... Read More

Pitt head coach Paul Chryst landed another local blue-chipper for the future on Friday when Central Valley high school standout Jordan Whitehead announced in a press conference today that he had committed to Pitt. What school Whitehead was going to choose has been a hot topic as of late and the Panthers landed him over West Virginia, Penn State, Ohio State and others. Whitehead is a four-star recruit in every ratings service and Rivals.com lists him as the 30th-best defensive back in the ... Read More
Pittsburgh Steelers secondary must improve quickly
Pittsburgh Steelers’ general manager Kevin Colbert chose not to address the cornerback position when the 2014 NFL Draft came and went, unless you consider drafting Shaquille Richardson in the fifth round addressing the situation. Despite Ike Taylor’s struggles throughout the 2013 campaign, Colbert also elected to not to address the position in free agency, electing to stick with what he has. At the end of the day, that decision could prove costly as this secondary is not a very good one, ... Read More
Nittany Lions hoping to ‘fix it’ going forward
On Friday night, there was a lot of social media buzz about Penn State entering the postseason undefeated. On Saturday night, there was a lot of social media outrage at what ESPN called “the biggest loss since 2001.” Penn State was 4-0 for the first time since 2008, due largely in part to how well the team has bonded. Quarterback Christian Hackenberg called his team a “tight-knit group,” and the players have responded well to head coach James Franklin’s program. His involvement-above-all ... Read More
ACC Power Rankings: Week 5
It was another lackluster week for most of the ACC, with only a couple of teams turning in solid performances, while most of the conference looked rather bad during the week. With that being said, here are my ACC Power Rankings for Week 5 of the college football season. Florida State (4-0, 2-0 ACC, defeated NC State 56-41, Last Week’s Ranking 1) It wasn't pretty, but FSU doesn't have a whole lot of obstacles between them and winning the conference. The defending champs have been far ... Read More
