After a disappointing finish to last week’s game, Robert Morris knew it had something to prove this week. Traveling on the road, the Youngstown State Penguins had a lot to prove as well following a tough loss against Pitt last week. A rainy game resulted in a lot of inaccurate passes and drops by both teams. Ultimately Youngstown State was able to adjust and endure the weather finding their first win on this early season. Robert Morris couldn’t find any offensive rhythm and would lose in ... Read More
Riverhounds draw with Wilmington despite disadvantage
The USL regular season is drawing closer and closer to the finish line with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on the fence of qualifying for the playoffs. Tonight the Hounds traveled to the home of the Wilmington Hammerheads FC, currently placed at the basement of the Eastern Conference. Facing a team that has nothing to play for, it was expected of the Riverhounds to take care of business. Finishing in a 1-1 tie, Pittsburgh played the vast majority of the second half down a man. Needing as many ... Read More
Steelers secondary can’t handle Gronk, Patriots
The Steelers secondary will have nightmares of Rob Gronkowski. The New England tight end scored three touchdowns to lead the Patriots to a 28-21 win over Pittsburgh in the NFL's season opener on Thursday night. The first half was dominated by the hosting New England Patriots who took advantage of a lackluster visiting Pittsburgh Steelers defense. The Steelers played better in the second half of the game, but it would not be enough to topple the reigning Super Bowl Champions. Coming into ... Read More
Opinion: the Pirates can still win the NL Central
Are you really surprised? The Pirates are headed for another season on the back burner of the NL Central; another season headed for a wildcard berth, and another season in which the St. Louis Cardinals give Pirates fans extra gray hairs that they (and I) could seriously live without. Despite playing in the toughest division in baseball, the Pirates would have a multi-game lead over the current leader in four of the five other divisions. Let that just sink in for a moment. A team cursed by ... Read More
Robert Morris drops season opener to Dayton
This afternoon Robert Morris hosted the Dayton Flyers, a team that has had the Colonials’ number for years. The newly energized hosts would end up losing in controversy with a final score of 27-24. True freshman Matt Barr made his collegiate debut, showing off both an accurate arm and quick feet. Finishing with 14 completions on 34 attempts, Barr threw for 156 yards and one touchdown. While only completing 14 passes, Barr hit his receivers on many of his attempts, but they struggled to hold ... Read More
Robert Morris ready to shake up NEC after down season
In recent years, Robert Morris football has hit a bit of a snag. Going an abysmal 1-10 last season, second-year coach John Banaszak looks to continue coaching up the young Colonial players. Mix in a rash of injuries and the inability to keep possession of the ball, Robert Morris has plenty of room for improvement. The defense allowed 377 (34.3 per game) points while the offense could only muster 109 (9.9 per game) which would land Robert Morris in the basement of the NEC. Linebacker Mike ... Read More
Pirates find real catch with Cervelli and Stewart combo
It is said that catchers are the generals of the baseball diamond and over the past few seasons this has been extraordinarily true for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Bucs have had their fair share of hits and misses in player projects, but recently it appears the Bucs have been getting a lot of hits when it comes to the catcher position — literally. Remember the days of pulling your hair out because Rod Barajas couldn’t square a ball up any better than he could throw a runner out? Or watching ... Read More
Steelers defense bowled over by Bills
One week after holding the high-powered offense of the Green Bay Packers to 19 points, the Pittsburgh Steelers defense was humiliated in a 43-19 drubbing at the hands of the once-lowly Buffalo Bills. The Steelers defense struggled mightily from the Bills first offensive snap, as Fred Jackson rumbled 41 yards through the secondary, all the way down to the Steelers 2-yard line. Two plays later, he gave the Bills an early lead with a 1-yard touchdown. The Steelers defense was shredded by both the ... Read More
Steelers beat Packers, both teams lose players
The Pittsburgh Steelers (1-2) hosted the Green Bay Packers (1-1) in their first game at Heinz Field this preseason on Sunday afternoon, and after allowing the Packers take an early 10-point lead, Pittsburgh was able to come to win their first preseason game of the season, 24-19. Green Bay began the game flying out of the gates, using the no huddle on several occasions. Catching the Steelers’ offense off guard by playing at a fast pace, the Packers went down the field and scored a quick ... Read More
Steelers fall to Jaguars, drop to 0-2 in preseason
The Steelers are still looking for their first win of the preseason, as they fell to 0-2 with their 23-21 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Steelers first-team offense, which didn’t see the field in the preseason opener last week, made quick work of the Jaguars defense. Roethlisberger completed a pair of passes to Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell, moving the chains. Bell then added on with a 16-yard scamper off the right side. Two plays later, on third and five Roethlisberger connected ... Read More
