The Riverhounds will take on Wilmington Hammerheads FC, in what will be the third game of the year. The season opener was a 1-1 tie to Orlando City on March 29th. Was Soko Snubbed?
With an average of 18.2 points per game, Ovie Soko took home the Atlantic 10 scoring title for the 2013-2014 season. I’m sure anyone could get guess where that landed him when the all-conference teams were announced in mid-March. That was sarcasm, if you guessed first team all-conference, you’re wrong. Second team? Guess again. Even though he scored more points than anyone else in the conference all season, while averaging almost 8 rebounds to boot, Ovie Soko earned himself a place on the third ... Read More
Should Ferry Be Crossing His Fingers This Spring?
Spring is a time of change and renewal. “Out with the bad, in with the good” is the time-worn mantra, reflected in the often-celebrated spring cleaning time. It is a time to find love, and often rediscover passions and vigor – a general rebirth of the soul (and bunny rabbits). But the past two spring off-seasons have been a little tough on the Duquesne men’s basketball program. Instead of looking at the past season and focusing on how they can use their talents to improve their beloved ... Read More
ACC, A-10 Land Agreements With Barclays Center
When the Barclays center first opened on September 28, 2012, it was destined to make its mark as the new home of the Brooklyn Nets. Months after it opened, in its first year of existence, the Atlantic 10 held their conference tournament there in March, becoming the first college basketball conference to do so. But it just so happens that the conference and its teams enjoyed playing in the Barclays Center more than anyone thought. With a just-announced new agreement, the Atlantic 10 will hold its ... Retrospective: The 2013-2014 Duquesne Dukes
Jim Ferry’s team entered the 2013-2014 season as major underdogs for the second year in a row. In the preseason polls, Duquesne was voted to finish last in the Atlantic 10 conference yet again – nobody believed they would do much better than last year. When looking at the Dukes on paper, it is easy to see what the coaches and pollsters saw. They saw a team with only three returning scholarship players: Derrick Colter, Jerry Jones and Jeremiah Jones. Quevyn Winters, one of the top freshmen in ... Read More
Atlantic 10 Tournament Recap
2013-2014 was a landmark year for the Atlantic 10 conference that saw six teams make the NCAA tournament. Better yet, five of these six teams received at large bids from the NCAA selection committee. VCU, Dayton, Saint Louis, UMASS, George Washington and Saint Joe’s all made the tournament – Saint Joe’s receiving an automatic bid after taking down VCU, 65-61 in the championship game. No one expected Saint Joe’s to make the run that they did in the conference tournament this year. As a #4 ... Read More
Dukes Take Down GMU in Final Regular Season Game
Duquesne ended the regular season on a high note, after taking down George Mason on the road, 81-69. With the win, Duquesne will get the No. 10 seed in the Atlantic 10 conference tournament, surpassing the play-in round. The Dukes will face Richmond, the No. 7 seed in the first round. Derrick Colter hit his career high in 3-pointers, hitting five on the way to a 21 point night. But Colter’s high-scoring night wasn’t a game high. That title belonged to Sherrod Wright of George Mason, who ... Read More
Duquesne Loses Back and Forth Contest, 78-74
Pittsburgh – From the looks of the first few possessions, the 2297 fans gathered at the A.J. Palumbo Center to watch Duquesne’s final game of the regular season knew they would be getting their money’s worth. “We didn’t make a couple plays and they made the winning plays down the stretch, that’s what it came down to,” said Ovie Soko. Soko finished with 18 points, 12 of those coming in the second half. Duquesne drew first blood, getting out to an early 15-6 lead as things warmed up. ... Read More
Preview: Final Week of Regular Season for Duquesne
With only one week to go in a whirlwind regular season, Duquesne still has one more conference powerhouse to face and a score to settle with a George Mason team that embarrassed them at home earlier in February. The Dukes face off against a talented Massachusetts Minutemen team that boasts a 22-6 record and was ranked in the top 25 early on in the season. Although the game is home, don’t count on it being highly attended, since the students will be on spring break. Nevertheless, it will be ... Read More
Improbable Victory Breathes New Life Into Final Stretch of Season
It has been quite a wild year for the Duquesne Dukes to say the least, and that wildness has gone both ways. Colter’s miraculous buzzer beater, the five conference games that came down to the final minute of play, the 15-point second half Duquesne had against Dayton have all been highlights for a crazy season thus far. Of the five games that came down to the last ticks of the clock, two of them were against the powerful Saint Louis Billikens. When Duquesne played rival St. Bonaventure for the ... Read More
