Duquesne Men’s Basketball Season Preview
Once again this year, the Duquesne basketball program faced a disheartening offseason that saw the departure of five players who all saw action last season. Forward Quevyn Winters, a dead-eye from beyond the arc last year, decided to transfer closer to home, citing family reasons. Winters averaged 9.6 points and 22 minutes per game last season. The other players to leave include centers Martins Abele and Derrick Martin, along with point guard Marvin Binney and sophomore small forward Kadeem ... Read More
Savage Will Get Nod, Signs Indicate
Pitt quarterbacks Tom Savage and Chad Voytik are still contending for the starting job, and at the end of spring drills, head coach Paul Chryst did not declare a winner. However, it appears as though the fifth year senior and former 5-star prospect has teammates on his side, including senior wide receiver Devin Street. It’s been a rocky road for the journeyman quarterback, who has been on the roster of three teams (Rutgers, Arizona and Pitt) in his 5 years as an NCAA student-athlete. He will ... Read More
Sunseri in Saskatchewan
Former Pittsburgh Panthers quarterback Tino Sunseri may never get a shot at the NFL, but he is a professional athlete after all. Sunseri signed a free agent contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) in late May, entering training camp as the fourth-string quarterback. Since then, Sunseri has unseated incumbent third-stringer Levi Brown, who was promptly cut from the team’s roster on June 17th. A 9 for 12, 122 yard performance that also included the ... Read More

Dukes Blow 17-Point Second Half Lead on Senior Night
Pittsburgh – After getting down early on in the game, then leading by 17 in the second half, Duquesne (8-21, 1-14) found themselves in a dogfight Wednesday night against the Charlotte 49ers (19-10, 7-8). The game ended up going into overtime, where Duquesne failed to muster any consistency and fell 89-87. “Chris Braswell took this one over and we really haven’t had that go-to guy to take something over. And that’s why we have to make our free throws, that’s why we can’t turn the ball over. ... Read More
LaSalle Too Much to Handle for Dukes
LaSalle ended Duquesne’s four-game winning streak at Tom Gola Arena with a 97-64 win. The last time LaSalle had a home win over Duquesne was 2006. The Explorers (20-7, 10-4) jumped on Duquesne early, getting out to a 15-3 lead in the opening minutes. They led by 97 at one point in the second half en route to posting the most points by a Duquesne opponent since a 111-100 Duquesne win over Fordham in 2010. Duquesne (8-20, 1-13) shot just 30 percent in the first half, which Ferry attributed ... Read More
Not-So-Magic Johnson
When sophomore sensation T.J. McConnell, along with Mike Talley and Danny Herrera decided to leave Duquesne this past off-season, Coach Ferry was left with just two potential leaders – Andre Marhold and Sean Johnson. Although not an ideal situation given the talent that walked out, it was almost a given that Ferry could count on Johnson. Last season, his first as a starter, Johnson finished second on the team with 13.5 points per game and led the team with 42 3-point field goals. This season, ... Read More
Duquesne Fails to Execute Late in 78-71 Loss
Pittsburgh – The new black uniforms failed to change Duquesne’s losing ways Saturday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center. Going up against a St. Bonaventure squad that was on the cusp of qualifying for the 12-team Atlantic-10 tournament, Ferry knew it would be a hard contest. But as well as Duquesne played for most of the second half, they couldn’t get the shots or the rebounds when they mattered most. “I thought we came out a little sluggish in the first half, I thought we let St. Bonaventure ...
