Earlier in the week, a report from CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora suggested that injured Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was aiming for a return to the lineup on October 25 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
That would make Roethlisberger come back about four weeks after originally injuring his knee.
Steelers fans may not want to put a lot of stock in that though as the franchise signal caller refuted La Canfora’s report, saying that there is still not timetable set for a return.
“I just left (team doctor James Bradley), and he said, ‘Where do these reports come from that you’re coming back at a certain week?'” Roethlisberger said on his weekly radio show on 93.7 The Fan. “I’m like, ‘I don’t know Doc, I haven’t really heard any of them.’ So I assume that’s exactly what he was talking about. We know that people like to just speculate and say things. So that did not come from me, the Steelers or any of our doctors, more importantly.”
“While some on the Steelers have quietly said they would not be shocked to see Roethlisberger return before the end of October, at this point a safe estimate is Oct. 25 at Kansas City, barring any setbacks.”
Roethlisberger, sometimes to his own fault, has been one to come back too soon from injury. But his knee is still giving his some trouble so seeing Roethlisberger again during the month of October could be a stretch.
He is progressing well and is no longer on crutches, but until I hear something from Roethlisberger or the Steelers, it is a safe bet to assume he isn’t going to be returning any time soon.
“There’s still quite a bit of pain from the bone bruise,” Roethlisberger said. “The MCL isn’t super painful. I feel it when I walk at times, but the problem is if I walk without a brace…when you kick your leg forward as if you’re just walking, it feels like your leg is just kind of flopping.”
