NFL Network continued its countdown of the Top 100 Players of 2014 on Tuesday and to some surprise, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger checked in at No. 31 on the list.
To some, being ranked the 31st best player in the NFL would be quite an accomplishment, but overall it states that Big Ben is still underrated around the league.
That rings especially true coming off the 2013 season he did and the fact that he already has a pair of Super Bowl rings.
Steelers’ fans can argue that Roethlisberger was one of the top five quarterbacks in the league last season and that the fact that seven or eight quarterbacks will likely be ranked ahead of him when the countdown is complete speaks to the fact that he gets lost in the shuffle when talking about the NFL’s top signal callers.
Of course you can look at the other side of the coin as well and say that Big Ben is about right where he belongs having not led the Steelers to the postseason in back-to-back seasons.
Roethlisberger is coming off a season in which he completed 64.2 percent of his passes, his highest percentage since 2009. He also threw for 4,261 yards (highest total since 2009) and 28 touchdowns (highest total since 2007).
I can see both sides of the argument but at the end of the day I have a hard time finding 30 better players in the NFL right now than Roethlisberger.
Big Ben is only the second Steelers player to crack the NFL Network’s Top 100 as Troy Polamalu checked in at No. 61.
