Wrestling in the state of Pennsylvania is a big deal. And for the Cannon-McMillan wrestling team, bragging rights are due.
At the Class AAA WPIAL/ Southwest Regional wrestling tournament, the Big Macs were dominant. Senior Solomon Chishko, a wrestler at the 145-pound weight class, took home his fourth WPIAL title. The win makes Chisko just the 24th wrestler to ever accomplish the feat and the second one this season.
The senior picked up the win in the form of a 9-4 decision overFranklin Regionals’s Josh Maruca.
Also winning an individual title for the Big Macs was Dalton Marci at the 126-pound weight class, one of the most competitive weight classes in the state. He managed to get a takedown right before the match ended, securing the win.
Overall, the Big Macs won the Section 4 bracket and ultimately took fourth place in the overall team tournament. Cannon-McMillan will still send Chishko and Marci to the state tournament.
For their strong weekend on the mat, the Cannon-McMillan wrestling team is this week’s Pittsburgh Sporting News team of the week.
