The Pittsburgh Penguins lost a player on Monday, when forward Bobby Farnham was claimed on waivers by the New Jersey Devils.
Farnham was placed on waivers on Sunday by the Penguins.
He signed a two-way contract before the season, so it was expected he would clear waivers and be assigned to the Penguins’ farm team in Wilkes-Barre. But the Devils are taking a shot on the forward.
The 26-year old Farnham had no points and five penalty minutes in three games with the Penguins this season. In his career he has played in 14 NHL games without recording a point and has 29 penalty minutes.
In other Penguins news, winger Beau Bennett practiced on Sunday and is hopeful he can return to the Penguins lineup this week. Bennett has missed the past five Penguins games after being injured while celebrating a goal.
There’s also good news on winger Eric Fehr, who is close to making his Penguins debut.
Pens head coach Mike Johnston said there’s a possibility Fehr could make his Penguins debut as soon as this weekend.
Fehr, who signed a three-year deal with the team on July 28, underwent elbow surgery on June 3 and has been out of the lineup since.
Finally, forward Bryan Rust looks as if he will miss some significant time. Rust left early in the second period of Saturday’s game in Nashville after blocking a shot and did not return.
