Pitt freshman Brenna Wise made history on Tuesday, becoming the first Pitt player to be named to the ACC All-Freshman Team since the Panthers joined the league three years ago.
Wise averaged 10.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. She led all ACC freshmen in rebounding the entire season and currently ranks seventh overall in the entire league.
“We are so proud of Brenna’s accomplishments this season,” head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio said. “She has impacted our team on and off the court, and her hard work and dedication have earned her this recognition. This is an elite group of players honored by the ACC and we couldn’t be happier to have Brenna represent the University of Pittsburgh among them.”
Wise led Pitt in ACC play this season, leading the team in both scoring (10.7) and rebounding (7.8) during conference play. Wise also recorded six double-doubles on the season.
She will have to be good on Wednesday as the Panthers take on North Carolina Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the opening game of the ACC Tournament. In the first meeting between the two, Pitt defeated UNC 76-60 in Chapel Hill. Wise had 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Both teams finished the regular season with 4-12 conference records. Pitt earned the tie-breaker and the No. 12 seed based on that victory.
