Burrell High School is building a dynasty in Western Pennsylvania on the wrestling mat.
At the end of last week, the Bucs won their eighth straight WPIAL wrestling championship, setting another new WPIAL record.
The team championship was clinched by Jason Roberts in the 120-pound weight class as he beat South Fayette’s Kevin Chsussard, 7-1, and giving Burrell a 34-28 team win.
The Bucs are the only team in the WPIAL’s 36-year history to win eight straight and with the win have won its 10th WPIAL title, also a new record.The win also qualified Burrell for the PIAA team tournament.
When the Bucs advanced to the PIAA and lost in the first round, they could’ve lost all hope. But they rebounded to finish strong.Burrell battled back to win five straight matches, three of which it won on Saturday, to claim a third place finish.
Burrell was able to beat Hunigdon, Hamburg and Boiling Springs in the consolation bracket and fight to third.
