When the draft started, the highest player ever drafted from California University of Pennsylvania was Judson Flint in the 7th round. There had only been three players from CalU ever drafted by an NFL team, but on the third day of the draft, that changed.
CalU offensive lineman Eric Kush was drafted in the 6th round with the 170th overall pick by the Kansas City Chiefs. Kush will now join CalU legend Elmo Natali, Flint and Tommie Campbell. Kush is the second player in three years to be drafted from CalU, after Campbell was drafted in 2011.
Kush played in the East-West Shrine game and received numerous off-season awards such as being named D2Football.com Second-Team All-American and being named a PSAC West First-Team All-American.
Kush should fit in well with the Chiefs, who are looking at upgrades just about everywhere on their offensive line. Kush has played tackle but will most likely compete for a roster spot at the center position.
Other CalU hopeful, safety Rontez Miles, didn’t hear his name called but could still sign with teams as a priority free agent. Many teams were taking safeties at the end of the draft so Miles could hear his phone ring very soon.
