The University of Pittsburgh has their cornerback/safety of the future. Central Catholic’s Damar Hamlin made the announcement on Monday that he will commit to the Pitt Panthers football program. Hamlin helped lead the Central Catholic Vikings to a 2015 WPIAL and PIAA championships.
Hamlin has been recruited by various different teams, including Notre Dame, Clemson, Virginia Tech, UCLA, Miami, Michigan State, Auburn, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Stanford, Syracuse, Arizona State, Tennessee, Wisconsin, West Virginia and others, according to SB Nation. However, Hamlin had narrowed his options down to three schools: Pitt, Penn State and Ohio State.
The 6’1 cornerback will join fellow cornerbacks Terrish Webb (Jr.), Lafayette Pitts (Rs. Sr.), Jordan Whitehead (Fr.), Dane Jackson (Fr.), Avonte Maddox (So.), Reggie Mitchell (Rs. Jr.), Dennis Briggs (Rs. Fr.), Malik Henderson (Fr.), Jevonte Pitts (Rs. Jr.), Oluwaseun Idowu (Rs. Fr.), Phillipe Motley (Rs. Fr.), Mark Bernsdorff (So.), Ryan Lewis (Rs. Jr.), Jalen Williams (Rs. Fr.), Jay Stocker (Fr.), and Rimoni Dorsey (Fr.).
On popular high school website Rivals, the cornerback/safety has been listed as a four-star recruit. In the state of Pennsylvania, he was listed as the fourth overall recruit and was listed as 126 in the nation. This past weekend, Hamlin made his official visit to Pitt with his fellow Central Catholic teammate Bricen Garner, who also committed to the Panthers.
Hamlin made his announcement on KDKA News. Before he will join the Panthers for any training, he will look to complete his senior year at Central Catholic high school.
