The Canadian Football League has been gaining ground in the United States. Obviously, the NFL rules all but when the only news in the NFL is who’s getting arrested or who’s taking PEDs, any on-field action fans can get will do. The CFL has even put some games on national television on channels like CBS and ESPN. Players can use the CFL as a launching pad to the NFL or even find a comfortable home in Canada. There are a good bit of players in the CFL from Western Pennsylvania. Players from Cal U, Edinboro, Mercyhurst, IUP, Slippery Rock, and PITT are either on a CFL roster or listed as a free agent.
Here’s a break down of those currently on rosters:
Erik Harris, DB, Cal U – Hamilton TigerCats – Harris currently starts for the TigerCats, splitting time between safety and linebacker. He has 14 tackles on the season, which is good enough for 5th on the team. This is his first season with the TigerCats.
Trevor Harris, QB, Edinboro – Toronto Argonauts – Harris is the second string QB for the Argonauts. This season he’s 3-5 with 66 yards. It’s his second season in the CFL.
Ian Wild, LB, Mercyhurst – Winnipeg Blue Bombers – Wild, a Pittsburgh native, has three tackles and 1 fumble recovery this season.
Brandon Lindsey, DL, PITT – Toronto Argonauts – Lindsey is a first year player who serves as a back-up on the Argonauts’ defensive line.
Josh Portis, QB, Cal U – Toronto Argonauts – Portis, who has spent time on NFL rosters, is a back-up QB for the Argonauts. This is his first season in the CFL.
Tino Sunseri, QB, PITT – Saskatchewan Roughriders – Sunseri is a back-up QB for the Riders in his first season in the CFL.

DJ Flick, WR, Slippery Rock – 339 career receptions, 5,170 yards, 33 TDs
Terrence Patrick, DE, Mercyhurst – 131 career tackles, 17.0 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries
