It was the Lamont Wade show in the WPIAL Class A Championships as the Clairton Bears (13-0) beat the Avonworth Antelopes 46-14 to win their seventh title in nine years.
Wade was the star of the game on both sides of the ball by hauling in four interceptions to go along with 128 yards rushing, 37 yards receiving and two offensive touchdowns. His first touchdown, a 54 yard burst, set the tone early on for Clairton.
Avonworth (11-2) would answer with a long gain to the Clairton two-yard line by Joshua Drwal and finished the scoring drive with a two-yard touchdown by Brandon Wasko. Wasko finished with 81 yards rushing on 22 carries.
Ryan Williams was strong for the Bears by completing 16 of 24 passes for 301 yards and five touchdowns. The senior showed nice touch on deep scoring strikes to Noah Hamlin, Aaron Matthews and twice to James Hines.
Joshua Drwal, filling in for Zach Chandler, was unable to generate much momentum in the game and finished with only eight completions for 88 yards passing, 56 yards rushing and was responsible for seven turnovers (six interceptions, one fumble) in the defeat.
Clairton will advance to the PIAA playoffs and will face the winner of the District 5 Championship between Berlin (11-2) and Meyersdale (10-2).
