Clarion defensive end Julian Howsare has another title to add to his growing resume. Howsare has been named to Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-America Third Team for the second time in as many years. Howsare was also named an All-American “honorable mention” by D2Football.com
The PSAC West Defensive player of the year wreaked havoc on opposing offenses in 2013 compiling 83 total tackles, 48 solo tackles and 18 tackles for loss. Howsare also recorded 10 sacks in 2013 ranking him second in the PSAC and 17th in the nation, in the category. He also recorded two interceptions, caused two fumbles and broke up four passes.
The Altoona, Pa. native wasn’t only and integral part of the Golden Eagle defense but the special teams unit as well blocking one PAT and three punts, returning one for a touchdown in the game against Seton Hill. Howsare’s performance earned him PSAC-West player of the week honors.
During his junior campaign, Howsare was named PSAC defensive player of the week twice and has been named to the Football Gazette Super Region 1 First Team, PSAC-West First Team and the Daktronics Super Region 1 second team.
After a breakout year last season, where he compiled 58 tackles and 14 sacks Howsare is already ranked on several NFL draft boards for not only 2015 but also 2014 should he choose to forego his senior season and declare for this April’s draft.
The Don Hansen DII All-America Team is named in honor of Don Hansen. Hansen was a long-time advocate for DII football and name their first All-America Team in 1988.
