Robert Morris has quietly been working its way to a conference title all season. This past week the Colonials clinched the Northeast Conference with two wins thanks in large part to senior guard Karvel Anderson.
Anderson, an Elkhart, Indiana native, scored over 25 points in each of the team’s two wins this past week.
The most recent, a win which clinched the conference title, Anderson netted 31 points on Senior Day. The Colonials needed overtime to beat St. Francis (NY) but Anderson played a pivotal role. Robert Morris won on a putback by guard Lucky Jones but the play that was drawn up was to put the ball into Anderson’s hands for the game-winner, showing the confidence the coaches had in him throughout the game. The 6-foot-2 guard’s 31 points came on 13-of-27 shooting, including three 3s. He also pulled down four rebounds and had three steals.
Earlier in the week, Anderson led the Colonials over LIU Brooklyn with a 26-point performance. After being held scoreless and without a shot in the first half of the game, he went 8-for-10 in the second half, including a perfect 5-for-5 from the 3-point line. The senior took over late in the game, scoring eight straight points to lead the Colonials back to a 61-61 tie with just under four minutes left in the game. After that, Anderson scored the team’s final nine points to give them a 73-64 win. He also added four rebounds and a steal in the win.
For his strong play in leading the Colonials to a conference title, Anderson is this week’s Pittsburgh Sporting News player of the week.
