IUP quarterback Mike Box waited until senior day, but he came through in a big way for the Crimson Hawks.
Box completed 21 of his 25 passes for 378 yards and four touchdowns and led the Hawks to a 55-20 victory over Gannon. He started off the game with a 37-yard touchdown pass just 2:25 into the game. He continued his touchdown-a-quarter pace by throwing a 16-yard score to Terrill Barnes in the second, a 31-yard score to Kevin Edwards in the third and an 11-yard score to Edwards again in the fourth.
Box’s four touchdown tosses were enough to single-handedly take down the Knights. His 378 yards were the most in school history since Brian Eyerman threw for 407 in 2001. It was also the first time an IUP quarterback threw for 300 yards since Andrew Krewatch did it back in 2008. That was also the last time an IUP QB threw for four touchdowns in a game. Ironically, that performance also came against Gannon.
The 21 completions, 378 yards and four touchdowns were all career-bests for the redshirt senior quarterback.
For his strong performance, Box is this week’s player of the week.
