Since the Pirates clinched home field for the wild card on Saturday, I’ve been trolling fans left and right on social media sites. Well, technically, the I haven’t been trolling, because no matter where you look, you see something about the Pirates playing on Tuesday against the Reds.
All of the fans are excited, which is great. It’s great for the city and great for the fans. However, do fans really know how to feel?
Fans have experienced the Penguins and Steelers playing in the playoffs consistently, so they know to be fired up. The thing is, they know if either team gets eliminated, they can look forward to the following season when they make it again.
For the Pirates, it’s not that simple.
It’s been 20 years. Think about that.
I’ll venture a guess that 75 percent of the stadium tonight will be made up of fans that don’t remember watching the Pirates playing in the playoffs before.
It’s a dream for fans that has finally come true. But in one game, the dream could be over and who knows when it will happen again.
Yes, the Pirates are set up to win for the foreseeable future, but it’s no guarantee.
So enjoy the game and regardless of the outcome, enjoy the experience. You never know when it will happen again.
