Duquesne (3-1) fell 84-70 to Pepperdine (2-2) today in the first round of the Gulf Coast Showcase at Estero, Fla.
L.G. Gill led the Dukes with 17 points, followed by Derrick Colter’s 16 and Jeremiah Jones’ 15 points.
Stacy Davis scored 18 of his game-high 21 points in the second half and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds for the Waves.
Duquesne held Pepperdine to 42.4 percent shooting, despite committing a total of 26 fouls that allowed the Waves 38 foul shot attempts.
Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry said his team must learn to play without fouling, according to goduquesne.com.
The Dukes, who tied the record on Friday for 17 3-pointers in a contest, went 0-of 13 from the arc in the first 20 minutes and 6-of-27 for the game. Pepperdine finished second nationally in 3-point defense last season.
Duquesne plays Milwaukee (4-2) in the second round of the Showcase tomorrow at noon.
