Duquesne (4-6) is aiming to put Sunday afternoon’s 78-69 Maryland Eastern Shore loss behind them in battling Texas-Pan American (5-7) tonight at 7:00 pm ET at the A.J. Palumbo Center.
Sunday’s loss for the Dukes marked the team’s fifth loss in six games. Despite this losing streak, Duquesne assists on 59 percent of field goals, led by junior guard Derrick Colter’s team-high 29 assists. As of the December 30 games, Colter is also ranked first nationally in 3-point percentage, while junior guard Micah Mason is 25th.
The Broncs are in their second season under head coach Dan Hipsher, returning two starters from a 9-23 team last season. Texas-Pan American was 5-11 on the road.
Texas-Pan American opened this season with four wins in their first six games, attaining 1-6 on the road. The Broncs are led by sophomore forward Janari Joesaar who averages 18.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
This is the second meeting between the two schools in a series that Duquesne leads 1-0. It will be the first time the game is played in Pittsburgh. The Dukes defeated Texas-Pan American 88-69 on Dec. 29, 2013 in Edinburg, Texas.
The Broncs have been idle since a 77-72 loss at Nebraska-Omaha on December 21.
Through the 10 games, Duquesne’s bench has outscored the opponent bench 323-174.
