Three Duquesne players scored 15 points to earn the 96-71 victory against Seton Hill on the Dukes’ 100th season opener.
Junior center Darius Lewis achieved a career-high 15 points, while senior guards Micah Mason and Derrick Colter each contributed to holding the Division II Griffins to 38.0 percent shooting.
Junior forward Noah Davis led Seton Hill with 15 points, all being 3-pointers.
Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry said the Dukes have to instill a “killer instinct” to ensure the team can shut down opponents, according to goduquesne.com.
Coming off the bench for the Dukes, sophomore forward Eric James scored 14 points in 13 minutes, freshman forward Nakye Sanders scored 6 points and added 7 rebounds, sophomore center Jordan Robinson scored 6 points and added 5 rebounds, and sophomore guard Rene Castro scored 5 points and added 4 rebounds. Freshman guard Josh Steel scored a 3-pointer and added 2 rebounds.
Duquesne held Seton Hill scoreless for the first eight minutes of contest, building a 20-4 lead. The Griffins missed 16 of its first 18 shots.
The Dukes host New Orleans on Monday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Palumbo Center.
